UNCOMFORTABLE LEVELS OF UNCERTAINTY
How is life stretching you?
Life has a way of stretching us in ways we never thought we would experience. Yet a little stretching is important before any exercise routine to improve flexibility and to decrease injury and even give your body the ability to release tension. We argue, “Lord, I don’t know that I can stretch or bend like that. I am not comfortable with that.”
Physical stretching till you are feeling stretched, without hurting and allowing your muscles to adjust before going into a further stretching position, can create a more tolerable and profitable exercising routine for you. But, there is often a tendency for the temptation to force the stretch, one’s way while remaining tense and then gaining no profit.
We can apply the same principals to our spiritual muscles also. Proper spiritual stretching happens when you yield to the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudges. Knowing the difference between when to move and at what pace or letting fear, indecisiveness, or even enthusiasm ruling are all important feelings to understand when yielding of the Holy Spirit or listening to Satan’s lies. With each time of yielding to the Holy Spirit, your spiritual muscle strengthens.
Now, speaking of comfort levels, the places the Lord is having me serve him in Haiti are admittedly the most difficult and challenging of all mission fields I have been in. Perhaps it is because I have learned so much about myself, my humanness, and my own weaknesses. I came to Haiti thinking I would offer my best gifts and talents; but so far, he has chosen to use me in areas that I felt are trivial, unexpected, or un-missionary like according to my missionary perspective. Instead of me being a “missionary” to Haiti, Haiti has been a “teacher” to me. It has stretched me uncomfortably; but praise God, with stretching also comes growth. PTL!!! Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Catherine

What is God’s will and are you delighting in it?
Let’s be honest, following the will of God is not always easy. First, “What is the will of God?” And secondly, “I am not sure I like what His will is.
Psalms 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
What does it look really look like?
Delight to do the will, law of God Ps. 40:8
to not Hide thy (His) righteousness Ps. 40:10
to have declared thy (His) faithfulness and salvation Ps 40:10
to not have concealed thy (His) lovingkindness Ps. 40:10
to have rejoiced in thy (His) testimonies Ps. 119:14
to meditate and have respect thy (His) precepts and waysPs 119:15
to delight in thy (His) statutes Ps 119:16
not forget thy (His) word Ps 119:16
to love, meditation all day thy (His) law Ps 119:97
to eat thy (his) words because they are the joy and rejoicing of my heart Jer.15:16
Make me to understand …so shall I talk of thy wondrous works. Ps 119:27
Teach me thy way so I shall keep it unto the end. Ps 119:33
Give me understanding yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Ps. 119:34

This morning started out with a whirlwind. Someone found out we were back. They had bought a SUKUP house and needed the lofts. I guess they bought another unit also. They were in Les Cayes already and had a driver that needed to drive back, so they were in a hurry to “load and go”. So, you guessed it, we were all “up and at ’em”. Unpacking and getting settled back in would happen later.

We pulled into the beach house at 8:45 p.m. last night. We were all very tired. Our driver was a very jerky driver, starting and stopping erratically and along with the windy road. Needless to say this didn’t help Olivia who got car sick and was that way for most of the way home. Fortunately, she had grabbed an airplane bag, and we had a couple of other bags also that she could use to help relieve herself. She was a trooper.

We were up bright and early this chilly morning and headed to the Omaha Airport. We boarded as usual, but our plane from Omaha had difficulty warming up, so it took 45 minutes for it to come to the point of being able to fly safely. To top that the airplane deicing equipment wouldn’t function due to the cold temperatures to prepare the plane to be functional. Our cabin hosts were great! They helped all the passengers call ahead to rebook their flights before we even took off. One of our cabin hosts was one of those down to earth hosts that used humor in explaining all the protocols. 🙂 I have always wanted to be on a flight like that. We arrived in Chicago at 8:35, which was five minutes too late, missing our regular flight to Ft. Lauderdale. The Lord took very good care of us by giving us a rescheduling agent from American Airline’s desk who gave us an overnight and three meals on American Airline’s in Chicago. We had to use the vouchers in Chicago. Catherine, who you know has chewing issues currently, was blessed as Chili’s restaurant in the Chicago Airport graciously blended her food. The photo is side dishes of steamed broccoli and avocado and black beans. They tasted GREAT! If you happen to fly through Chicago Airport, support Chili’s and thank them for blessing a Missionary by blending the food for a special physical need. The Lord blesses those who blesses one of his children.
Is it an American concept? What is your love language? With the popularity of acknowledging peoples love languages in recent years, it seems to me that the Christian community has invested much in this concept.
Although there is some validity to each person having their own love language, is it really a biblical concept to put much stock into or hang your hat on? How should the concepts of ones love language fit in the believer’s life? If someone’s love language is not met, is my love for other’s conditional then? It is Biblical to love our neighbor as ourselves, the second greatest commandment. It is Biblical to love our enemies, to bless them that curse you, to do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you. Matthew 5:44 The Bible also states that even sinners love those that love them.
Luke 6:32-36 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
Lesson’s from the refiner’s fire.
It’s not about me!
It is not about my strengths or weaknesses that God is looking for. It is about my willingness to be available in whatever circumstance the Lord wants to use me.
Many times He works through our weaknesses so that He can receive the glory that our flesh wants. If he wants to use you in your weakness, it will be His strength and then His glory that is revealed.
2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
He can and will also use you in your skillfulness, talents, or strengths, but are you humble enough to give credit where credit it due? Or are the praises of men where the treasure of your heart is?
